About

Tucked along the western shoreline of the Toronto Islands, Hanlan’s Point Beach is a distinct mix of natural sanctuary, historic queer haven, and bohemian paradise. Stretching for about one kilometer, it stands as Toronto's only official clothing-optional beach, and one of only two officially sanctioned nude beaches in all of Canada.

The Atmosphere & Culture

What makes Hanlan's truly special isn't just dropping your swimwear, it’s the radically inclusive, body-positive energy.

  • A Queer Cornerstone: Recognized as one of the world's oldest surviving queer spaces, Hanlan's hosted Canada's very first Gay Pride celebration back in 1971. It remains a deeply rooted, joyful hub for Toronto's 2SLGBTQ+ community.

  • No-Judgment Zone: People of all body types, ages, and backgrounds come to lounge, socialise, playing beach volleyball, and swim. Whether you prefer to strip down completely or stay fully clothed, the rule of thumb is total mutual respect.

  • The Summer Vibe: On warm weekends, the shore hums with portable speakers playing tunes, casual beach barbecues, and laughter. Further out in the water, boaters anchor to throw lively floating parties.

The Setting & Experience

Separated from the rest of the island by lush green brush and sand dunes, you never accidentally wander onto the nude stretch.
